Tournaments and horse breeding in Tyrol, Austria

The tournament facility at the riding hotel Strasserwirt in St. Ulrich

Competing in tournaments has been part of the Strasserwirt for many years. Some of the tournament horses come from our own breeding programme. Allow us to introduce our tournament horses.

Horse breeding at the Strasserwirt riding centre

Our small, but very high quality breeding programme of warmblood and sports horses is our passion. Each year, we have 1 or 2 warmblood foals born in our stables with excellent ancestry.

Our young “family members” are put in the care of professional breeders until they are 3 years of age, where they grow up in a suitable way within a herd (stallions in Landsberg/D with the Maier family, mares in St. Ulrich with the Wörgötter family). The young horses are ridden-in and prepared for their sporting career by the team here at our riding stables.

Horses for sale from our own breeding

We have horses ranging from uncut diamonds, successful youngsters, through to trained, experienced horses. For inexperienced riders, we also often have a suitable “partner” for learning how to ride.

Simply get in touch with us directly with your enquiry when on holiday at the Strasserwirt, send us an e-mail, or telephone us on 0043/664 822 84 25.

A selection of our youngsters:

  • 4-year-old mare from Glock‘s Johnson (Jazz) x Lanciano/Dunhill/Rubinstein (winner of dressage horse test Class A)
  • 4-year-old gelding from A Lee Spring Power (Argentinus x Cornet Obolensky) x Nimrod/Jalisco (winner of jumping tests Class A)

It is also sometimes possible to purchase one of our teaching horses. They may be on the lookout for a nice place after their “working career as a training course” where they can be ridden for recreational purposes, and can feel happy and content.

Breeding successes

The Strasserwirt used to very successfully breed Tyrolean Haflingers and Shagya Arabians, though nowadays we are very pleased with our successes in the breeding of sports horses.

  • Born in 2012 from our Rosenfürstin von Con Chello (Chello I x Come On I)
  • Winner of the open jumping Championships in Salzburg at the age of 3
  • This year, Roxanne gave birth to a mare by Casino Grande, to be prepared from autumn for a sporting career.

  • Born in 2011 from our Rosenfürstin von Cristallo, prime young mare, winner of the free jumping Championships at the age of 4 at the Amadeus Horse Indoor competition.
  • Rock’n Rose was assessed as a double exceptional talent, but unfortunately a clinical error meant no career and no long life. We hope that her full brother, who at the moment is growing up at a stallion breeder’s, will perhaps continue in her footsteps.
